OKLAHOMA March – June 2010!!
Oklahoma,
where the fire comes sweeping down the plains!!
OK, so in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical it was the wind that
came sweeping down the plains, back then in the ‘dustbowl era’.
But we Christians know that when the “mighty rushing wind” comes,

As you may have known, I’d
had confirmations of God’s purpose for me to visit Pakistan, and
I was making preparations for when to go and who to work with, when
the Lord intervened. Wednesday 27 January I had just finished dinner
and was sitting down to watch TV for a while, when God spoke to
me. “Perhaps you should visit your buddy Kenneth in Tulsa. It’d
be good for him, good for the church, and good for you. At least
one month, maybe three.” Hmmm! I immediately shared this with Susan,
and we reflected on it for a while (I’m not immune to the ‘voice
from the ceiling’!). It was interesting that I clearly sensed an
element of discretion – our personal choice – about whether I should
go or Kenneth should receive me.
By Friday evening we’d concluded
that there was nothing left but to act on the word, so I ‘phoned
Kenneth to share it with him. It was then I was hit with a bombshell
and a revelation. My good buddy (I’ve visited with him and his church
a couple of times) lost his darling wife Freda not long before (a
fact unknown to me). More so, Kenneth was on the last day of a twenty-one
day fast on the day I ‘phoned. He was calling out to the Lord for
help and encouragement, for direction for the church, and for new
power to set people free from the powers of spiritual oppression.
On the third day (!!!) after the Lord’s voice came to me, he caused
me to answer Kenneth’s cries! Is our Lord good, or is he very good?!
The cry for help of the Israelites went up before God (Ex 2:23),
and he hears us still.
Kenneth and his church later
confirmed that it was the Lord’s will for me to go and help them,
so we began planning the date. Separately we called on the Lord
to tell us his will when I should go. In bed that night the Lord
said “March 20”. I waited until our next ‘phone call, for Kenneth
to speak. When we did, he said “Well, I’ve been feeling that springtime
would be good”. I pressed him further. “Well, Easter is April 4
this year, and I feel it would be good if you could come, say, 2
weeks before that?” Look it up!
And so it happened that I shall
be flying from Newcastle to Tulsa, arriving there in the evening
of March 19 (early morning March 20, UK time). I will be ministering
alongside Pastor Kenneth Linn (and for part of the time in his absence),
just “lovin’ on them good folks” in the “Sooner State” of Oklahoma!

HELPING OTHERS
DO GOD'S WORK
When we can, we like
to assist other mission-minded friends to donate direct to local brothers
and sisters working in the Harvest Field. Having assurance that someone
can vouch for your money being put to good and genuine use is a big factor
when we are stewards of God's resources. This note of thanks came from
a pastor in India who had received a gift from a friend who we'd liaised
with when we'd been told about a pressing need for bicycles:
Brother, I am a extremely thanks
so much for your kind heart in transferring my humble requests to Brother
J [name witheld] about bicycles for co-workers. I felt so happy and
jumped with joyfulness in Christ and informed this holy news to all
of my co-workers. They too prayed about bicycles by providing a lot
of strength to brother J as well as you in this holy plan of salvation
in India. [2 bicycles were donated by this Brother]
BUILDING THE CHURCH BY EMAIL
The other day I came
across another web site promoting ‘internet evangelism’. Despite the internet
and email having been around for so long now that its no longer new, internet
evangelism still seems to be a ‘new thing’ to some us. Well, Praise the
Lord that we have ways and means to share the gospel! Since the beginning
of Heavenfire Ministries’s work (whilst I was still leading local churches),
it has been a routine part of ministry to share encouragement, empowerment,
and evangelism via the internet. Our web site generates a steady stream
of enquiries from UK and worldwide, by email and by phone, that I always
respond to by the direction of the Holy Spirit, according to the wisdom
he gives me to share. Sometimes, if time is tight or if it just seems
right, I pass on these enquiries to my fellow Heavenfire directors to
answer. Questions range from administrative (e.g. ‘Where can I find resources/
bibles in my native language’) to discipleship and counselling issues.
Often, people contact me to have me pray for them, to give words of guidance
or encouragement from the Lord, or to minister healing or deliverance.
- One female pastor in Africa told
me how she had, in a time of desperation, fallen into a lesbian relationship,
and wondered how she could be forgiven and resist further sin. A
male church leader in India has regular discussion with me concerning
the tension between his desire to be faithful to the Lord’s call and
the manipulations of some of his secular family members.
