Beds. Not
the most obvious need for tsunami victims, perhaps. That is, until
you realise that these beach-dwellers had everything they owned swept
away, including their wooden beds. These metal-framed beds should
be more durable. |
|
Fishermans'
boats that were not swept away or totally destroyed await repair.
Average repair costs (so we are told) run to around £125. This
also is the replacement price for a single fishing net. |
|
A church
building lies in ruins as a local Pastor surveys the damage. |
|
The
remains of a fisherman's hut (foreground) and a more substantial
home (background) both lie abandoned, covered in mud from the torrent.
Both cast another dimension on the words of Jesus (Luke 6:46-49).
Who helps the poor to build? |
|
The beach
could be idyllic, but see the tops of the palm trees? Snapped like
twigs by the force of waves "as high as palm trees" observers
reported. |
|
One of
the greatest needs for survivors is clothing and blankets to keep
warm at night. Here, one of partners distributes some from village
church premises. |
| |
Our partner,
Pastor Samuel John, reports: "We have also helped the lepers,
who are beggars by profession and their main stay is on the sea shores
... their tents laid on the seashore which were washed completely
away. The life has become very tough to them now. So we asked them
to come to our house and that is where we gave them the clothes." |
|
Preparing
for one of the many distributions of practical help, provided by generous
supporters of Heavenfire Ministries! May blessings abound
to all who help, through finances, prayer, or in any other way. |
|
Heavenfire's
partners distribute blankets to victims of tsunami on south-east India
coast |
|
Clothing
is also needed, as many of those affected lost everything |
|
'With
the measure you use, it will be measured to you' (Lk 6:38). Rice
being distributed by our partners at a tsunami-struck beach village. |
|
To eat
the rice, we need to provide the people with plates. They lost everything.
These good quality stainless steel plates will last well. |
|
Houses
will need to be rebuilt, like this beachside home, now lying in ruins
after being struck by waves up to 10m high |
|
Beachside
businesses like this restaurant were destroyed, leaving owners with
no income, as well as no home. |
|
'He
has anointed me to preach good news to the poor' (Lk 4:18). After
distribution of aid, the gospel is preached. 'Turn from Gangamma
Talli [goddess of the sea]: turn to Christ. God loves you' |
